Learning Spanish can seem daunting, even unattainable!  These tips are designed to ease your fears and build your understanding of Spanish:

 

Tip #2

 

The rule for pronunciation of the majority of Spanish words (those ending in a vowel, -s, or –n) is that, unless there is a written accent, the word is stressed on the penultimate (next to last) syllable. 

 

 

 

Word  pronunciation 
 amigo ah MI go 
 cocina koh SEE nah 
 restaurante

rays tow RON tay

 

For words with a written accent, the word is stressed on the syllable with the accent. 

 

 

Word  pronunciation 
 inglés een GLASE 
 teléfono tay LAY foh noh 
 lápiz LAH pees
