Christine Trexel-Our Very Own Books, Boxes and Paper Maker PDF Print E-mail
Written by Playa Community

christine_trextel_thumbnail1.jpgChristine Trexel became interested in hand paper making, book binding, and box making as an extension of her lifelong love of books.  The tropical plants of Panama provide an ongoing opportunity to discover new fibers that lend themselves to the making of beautiful paper which can then be used to create books, boxes, and other works of art.

"My interest in paper making, book binding, and box making originated as a part of my lifelong love of books.  I believe that a day which passes without a book having been in my hands, in some form, is an incomplete day.  Discovering new fibers to use for paper making has been one of the benefits of my move to Panama two years ago.  There are a wide variety of tropical plants that have the fiber appropriate for paper, and I hope to try my hand at as many of them as possible.

I use hand made paper, decorative paper, book cloth, book board, brass, and high quality print paper in making my books and boxes often incorporating images embossed, printed, or adhered to the covers.  Every element of the construction of the books and boxes is done by hand, including hand sewing the pages of the book.

I am available to create custom projects for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions.  Fabricating boxes to hold treasured items is also available.

I have experience in basic book repair for those favorite books that are beginning to suffer from wear.

We would be so delighted,no HONORED - if Christine might be interested in teaching a very BEGINNER's level of "how to" do her craft...to kids in our free
"Art for Kids" class we offer here at Finca La Maya every Saturday 1-3 pm.
Classes are all offered on a volunteer basis - time, materials, and the gratitude in the smiles of the children is priceless!
