ImageAs a result of the unprecedented success of the February Spay and Neuter Blitz in Gorgona, we will be holding a second event this coming Sunday, April 20th.  Thanks to the generous support of so many of our neighbors on the beach and in the mountains, we have plenty of volunteers to work in all positions except two.  We are still in need of a couple more people who are strong enough to carry dogs (as part of a team) to and from the operating tables.  Available shifts are 8 to 11am and the 2 to 5pm.  Drivers are also needed to provide transportation to and from pickup sites (like bus stops or super mercados) to our Gorgona facility for animals in crates and their owners.  No Spanish is necessary and you will be given specific directions.

The most pressing need we have is for donations of money. Right now we only have about half of the money needed to cover the expenses of this Blitz. We do these operations to try to eradicate the stray animal problem and  to help the local people who can not afford to pay a couple weeks of their salary to have their animals neutered.  The expense involved in these Blitzes is covered solely by the donations of our community.   A donation of $10 will neuter a cat and for $20 a dog can be sterilized.  If you can help, please contact Mary Rhodes at 6752-5815 or email at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   or contact Jamuna of Playacommunity.com at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

If you would like to visit the Blitz site to encourage our hard-working volunteers or to see your donation put into action, directions are as follows:

Take a right at the entrance to Gorgona if you are coming from Coronado.  Take a left if coming from Bejuco. There’s a small shopping plaza on the corner with the Mini Super Gorgona in it.  Go down more than a mile until you see a large Super Mercado Jonathan.  Turn right there.  Then, go down several small intersections (over at least two speed bumps) until you come to an intersection that has signs for three places:  Casa Sin Punto, Rincon Catracho, and La Ruina.  This is 2nd Ave Sur.  Turn left there.  Continue until you see the restaurant Rincon Catracho on your left.  Just past there, on your right is a large light green and brown building (La Ruina).  Take a left at that intersection.  You should see a Super Mercado on your right and then a futbol playing field on your left.  At the end of the futbol field there are three building,  the first one is the Junta Comunal (followed by the Ministerio de Salud).
