Mari Pily Castillero is a Panama city attorney with huge heart for animals. She rents a farm in Arraiján,which acts as shelter for anywhere upto 150 cats and dogs. The shelter is entirely funded by Mari Piliy’s earning, credit card debt and the occasional help of friends. The Arraiján shelter takes in unwanted dogs and cats, gets them spayed, cleaned up, fed and offers them a safe environment. “We are in constant need of food and medical supplies. There is a huge number of animals that need help. I can barely keep up. There are many good animals at the shelter that urgently need homes.”

My first Panamian dog came from Mari Pily’s shelter. A happy little mutt who jumped into my arms, while I toured the facilities. We called her Quita. She has grown to be an affectionate and friendly dog. I am incredibly grateful that MP rescued her. That was almost 2 years ago. Mary Pily is still spending every available minute rescuing animals, and keeping up with a law practice to fund animal care. She spends all her money to keep the shelter alive. “I cannot help myself”.
