It’s true! Cholos has gone to the dogs – and it is a VERY good thing! On Wednesday afternoon, Cholos restaurant hosted a FUNdraiser for the Spay the Strays Group and the place was packed with animal lovers who sipped delicious margaritas or cold frosty beers as they tried their luck on raffle tickets and grabbed up some great used books. (Of course, they didn’t forget the VIP family members left at home – they also gobbled up lots of bags of homemade dog biscuits.) Spay the Strays raised over $750.00, thanks to the generosity of our many dedicated supporters and the following raffle donors: Playacommunity.com; Kathy Kress; Karyn Saunders and Allan Breadner and Cholos for giving part of the earnings from drinks as well as donating a gift certificate. The luckiest couple there was Betty and Craig Weincek who won BOTH of the big prizes, a plane ride for two and an overnight stay for eight at a beachfront house!
The Spay the Strays Group is an informal organization dedicated to decreasing the number of unwanted dogs and cats by offering low cost sterilizations. They work in conjunction with two non-profit veterinary organizations: Spay Panama and the Mckee Foundation. To enable Spay the Strays to fund the neutering of both strays and the pets of low income families, they hold fundraising events such as this throughout the year. So far in 2009, they have sterilized over 350 animals. For more information about the organization and their upcoming events, see the message boards section of Playacommunity.com If you would like to help, please contact Sheila Scott at 6656-9929 or
